Shades of black cats, broken mirrors, spilled salt and walking under ladders…

Mock it if you will, like the Gary Sinise character (Ken Mattingly) during a pre-flight press conference in Apollo 13— but hey, look what happened to them!  Mattingly didn’t even make the flight, so careful how you mock the number 13. Many people just hunker down for the day and emerge on the 14^th.

February puts an odd twist on it, giving us Friday the 13^th followed immediately by Valentine’s Day. Not necessarily a bad combo, but some folks face two luckless days running, not exactly a fun prospect.

On the other hand, my old response used to be: Party! Back when I hosted numerous backyard beer & bar-b-cue bashes, Friday the 13^th was always a good excuse for a party. Mind you, I never got “lucky.”

But if you’re feeling lucky on this Friday the 13^th, here’s some suggestions:

• Play the lottery
• Invest in the stock market
• Hit the boss up for that raise
• Ask that special someone out for the first time
• Propose marriage
• Buy a house
• Have a child
