Facebook — finally!
As a high-tech luddite, I resisted joining Facebook for a long time. I had signed up with MySpace back in 2006 as convenient way to blog about my trip to Italy accompanying my musician cousin, Will T. Massey. For awhile, that was very satisfying. Not only did the blog get readers, it prompted action on the part of two readers, specifically, travel plans to come see Will perform his final nights in Italy. So that was very reinforcing.
I kept up with MySpace for awhile, delighting in finding old friends and new and hearing about various endeavors people were promoting. After a bit, though, my interest started to lag considerably. It didn’t help that MySpace often seemed to lag considerably on my internet connection, forcing me to spend too much time re-loading pages to really enjoy it much.
So I was already aware of the powerful aspects of social networking. Why did I wait so long for Facebook? I don’t know, really. Sure, I worried about “wasting time” on yet another website I’ll visit constantly all day. Bad enough to check my view counts over on youtube.com/casadexter several times a day. And my obsessive news-reading habit hasn’t abated any, so I did worry about spending too much time online — too much “unproductive” time, that is.
Finally, though, I broke down. My other excuse (I found another Alan Buller already registered) turned out to be bogus (we both get to use our names) and far too many friends kept mentioning Facebook.
So I caved and registered. My first pleasant surprise involved finding my old high school buddy, last seen at our 30th reunion back 7 years ago. Far out! Very quickly, I found several more old friends and of course, Facebook takes what it know about you and suggests others. Mind you, with a high school class as large as mine, Idon’t recognize more than half the names suggested via that connection (and a number of others in that pool weren’t friends back then and I doubt we would be now…)
So, anyway, I’ve got log off this blog now and go find a few more friends. For instance, several players from the local 1980’s comedy troupe, Better Than TV (BTTV) show up among mutual friends and I’d like to let them know about the BTTV clips over on Casa Dexter. So, gotta go…catch me on Facebook for more…
